Coaching 101

What is coaching?

“Coaches are trained to listen, to observe and to customize their approach to individual client needs. They seek to elicit solutions and strategies from the client; they believe the client is naturally creative and resourceful. The coach’s job is to provide support to enhance the skills, resources and creativity that the client already has.”
The International Coach Federation

At Fierce First Step, we partner with our clients to manifest goals in relationship, work and life purpose. During individual coaching sessions, we draw out of the clients the necessary steps to create their visions. We provide objective feedback that opens doors to new possibilities. Our feedback also illuminates the issues that prevent the forward movement toward what people want.

Who works with a coach?

Clients vary from corporate business people who want to excel in their profession to individuals who feel stuck in relationship, work or life.

Anyone who desires a more fulfilled life can benefit from coaching. Often peoples’ internal conflicts will prevent fulfillment of desires. These issues may be:

  • The need to be right, perfect, look good or to be in control
  • A fear of becoming close to others or of people really getting to know you
  • A need for approval and attention
  • A tendency to sabotage progress in self and others
  • A fear of failure or success

When these needs occupy one’s life, it is a challenge to live a balanced and content life. We are committed to empowering our clients so that these patterns diminish over time and that desired results are achieved.

What issues are addressed in coaching?

Clients begin coaching with a vast array of objectives….

  • Start a new business or transition into a new career
  • Increase productivity in business
  • Make difficult life decisions
  • Develop better working or personal relationships
  • Strengthen yourself from feeling powerless

Resolve conflicts within business and personal relationships

What is the format for coaching?

Coaching sessions typically are for one hour and can be in person or by telephone. The number of sessions is determined by what the client wants to accomplish.

What is the history of coaching as an industry?

Individuals and organizations are recognizing the impact and growth of coaching.

“Coaching is an action-oriented partnership that, unlike psychotherapy, which delves into patterns of the past, concentrates on where you are today and how you can reach your goals…”

“[Coaches] give clients the confidence to get unstuck – to change careers, repair relationships or simply get their act together.”
